Entry 44: Time for a New Look (Part 2)

Hey Crew!

Welcome back! How are you guys doing? 8 more days until classes start! I can’t believe it! Summer is coming to a close, autumn is just around the corner, and time keeps ticking. Time to take a breath and prepare for the future. Let’s do this!

Business Cards, Letterheads, and Resumes

So, after much thought, I have decided that I am not going to be changing my logo for a while. I couldn’t think of anything more simple and more straight forward for me. Maybe at some point down the road I’ll change it.

I keep thinking I need more detail or pazzaz in how everything looks. I am trying to go for a simplistic style so I have to remember less is more. The struggle is real. On top of that I can’t seem to figure out which typography to use for my branding. I need your help!

I find all my cool fonts on dafont.com. They are an open source site for unique fonts. I have been using them for years. But now I have found several different fonts that I like and I can’t decide on which one is the best! These first images you see are business cards. I kind of like the vertical layout. So the side where my logo is is the front, and the side with the stars is the back. Which one do you guys like best? Is there any information missing that you guys like to see on business cards? Which font do you like best?

After we figure out the typography, I’m going to change that on the letterhead and on my resume. How do you guys like the set up for everything else? Does it seem professional? Does it all tie in together? Or is it too much? Let me know what you guys think!

I think that wraps everything up for today. It is going to be a bit before the next update on the branding adventure. So I am game for any and all feedback from you guys! Don’t forget to come back Saturday for the next Zodiac Sign! These Signs are very dreamy and flow with their environment. Can you guess who is next? Remember to stay safe and to stay sane!

Until next time,

Suzanna 🌙

Entry 32: What if the Zodiacs Were… (Part 2)

Hey Crew!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Welcome to the first day of Side Project Wednesday! Most of the time these projects are going to be broken up into parts, because I’ll be using my free time to work on them. Are you ready to rock?

(Left) Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius / (Right) Aries, Taurus, Gemini

So here is the last of the Zodiacs. If you want to know more about the meaning behind symbols and style read the first post here.

What do you guys think? I had so much fun with these! I am really proud of how they look and how they match with the actual Tokidoki Unicornos. I enjoyed how this project pushed me to be very vector based and simple. I know that is a struggle for me. I have like this internal conflict about if I have enough detail or if things need shadow or more lines, and on the flip side I think less is more. The struggle is real.

Don’t forget to check out my IG Friday for a double picture of #BlackoutFridays. Saturday the next Sign is going to be released. Do you know which one is next? Sunday there is going to be an announcement about Sunday Comic Day! Things are moving forward. See you soon! Remember to stay safe and stay sane!

Until next time,

Suzanna 🌙

Entry 28: What if the Zodiacs were… (Part 1)

Hey Crew!

Welcome back! How are you guys doing? How are you guys liking the Zodiac Series? I am having a lot of fun with them. We are 4 down and 8 more to go! October is going to be here faster than we think. I am definitely ready for Autumn.

Anyways, I want to share with you guys a side project I have been working on. A couple of months ago I posted a DYI Unicorno that I painted on Instagram. I also thought about doing the whole Zodiac as Unicornos. Can you see where this is going?

(Left) Cancer, Leo, Virgo / (Right) Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces

I am using this project to get better with Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to make them all be uniform. Each Sign has their own color palette. The little blushes are colored after each Sign’s main birthstone. The little charms in the mane are the Signs’ symbols. I also added each one’s ruling planet as the little birthmark on the rear end. I added the constellations on each of the Sign’s wings. The triangles you see are symbols their elements.

What do you guys think? I am loving how they are coming out. I low key want to get more of the DIY Unicornos to make mock ups of all of them. Someday.

I want to state that I am not working with Tokidoki. This is basically fan-art and a learning project.

Please go support their business. I love the Unicornos, personally. Actually, some would call it an obsession. 🤣 I am just an avid collector of cute things. https://www.tokidoki.it/

Don’t worry, I’ll be posting the last 6 of the Signs soon. I’ve got to keep you guys coming back for more. 😊

I hope you guys all enjoy the rest of your day. Remember to stay safe and to stay sane.

Until next time,

Suzanna 🌙

Entry 13: It is Time to get Digital

How’s it going!?

It is already the end of May! I am not sure how you all are doing, but to me it seem like the days are blurring together. Like going to sleep is just like a long nap at this point. And don’t get me started on this heat/humid wave that we have spent a week in. Ugh I feel like I’m melting. Enough with my self imposed pity party, how are you? Have you been remembering to take care of your self? A lot of horrific events have transpired recently and I know that that is having some sort of effect on everyone. I wish I could do more to help. My sister and I have been trying to come up with ways we can help, even from Vermont. I will definitely keep you all informed when we figure out what we can do. But just keep #BlackLivesMatter in the public face. You have allies here in the Green Mountain State.

Alright! Time to get into some art!

So, my idjit of a self, forgot that I should have downloaded a screen capture software to be able to show you my digital work. But I only remembered that fact when I was almost done with my pieces. The struggle bus just wants to make me part of the pavement it seems. I was able to get my hands on a pretty inexpensive drawing tablet and I wanted to challenge myself. It was really hard in the beginning and I just wanted to quit and illustrate it with my watercolors and markers. But I didn’t give in to that negative voice in my head! I didn’t because I remembered that I am trying to be OK with my failures and to share them even if they should never see the light of day. Regardless, I was pretty impressed with my self.

Quarantine Challenge Project # 11: Re-do Angel

For this project I took a super old piece of mine and re-did it. Like I made this piece like in my freshman year of high school. (I am so old, I know.)

First off, what are proportions? And those wings!? I remember being so proud of this piece. How did I get into art school? Anyway, I started out finding a WAY better composition. Then I researched birds and their wings. I ended up loving Eagle Owl wings! (For information on Eagle Owls: https://www.owlpages.com/owls/species.php?s=1240 )

Once that was all settled, I started out in Photoshop. I used to love painting in PS, but I can tell you that I had a lot of trouble getting it to look like how I wanted it. Like I know how to properly blend colors and give more definition to things with traditional material, but I was having the hardest time in PS. But I pressed on, because I know Rome wasn’t built in a night.

I could not, for the life of me, figure out what I should do with the background. But as you can see, the difference is astounding! I have definitely grown so much. But I didn’t think I could call this done. I decided to push the envelope. To be exact, I took things into Illustrator.

I think I found a new medium that I can learn to love. It was really hard to stick with a more flat, vector looking coloring. But I think it looks 100% better then the painterly look that I got in PS. I also know I need practice with fabric. But I still count this as a win! I still couldn’t decide on what to do with the background. HAHAHAH…

Which version do you like better? You can vote on the pieces on my Insta. Link down at the end of this post.

Welp, that is all I got for this post. Thank you for joining me on this journey! I promise more content again soon. But in the mean time check out my socials! You never know what you are going to find!

Until next time,

Captain Suzanna ⭐
